Conversion efficiency of black siliconsolar cells is close to 18%

Recently, experts of Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences made a big breakthrough on black silicon (polycrystalline) solar cell, they improved the conversion rate up to 17.88%, almost the world leading level.

Professor Xia with his team made black silicon on commercial poly using plasma immersion on implantation technology, and successful applied the technology on solar cells. The ion implantation reaction can form dense nanostructure which will contribute to perfect light trapping effect, in that condition the absorptivity polysilicon can reach 99%. Thereby significantly improve conversion efficiency of solar cells. This research was published on Solar Energy Materials and Solar cells, Solar Energy, Energy Procedia, Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena, Physics Journal. We also applied more than 30 patents.
